  Brent Kirby

Brent Kirby

In the Wine Bar

Brent Kirby is a night's stroll with a rock n' roll romantic. This does not mean Kirby's merely a smitten troubadour, or a bard for the wayward but colorful life of musicians. Though his own songs bring up those immortal topics, Kirby's romanticism is much bigger than that. His songs start with the introspective stir of strum and voice, but not unlike his performances, gradually move outward, and embrace the listener.

He belongs to a seasoned class of artists who followed in the footsteps of the likes of James Taylor, Cat Stevens and Paul Simon. Unlike the ramblings of suburbanite hipster-folksters who write about washboards they've never touched and moonshine they’ve never tasted, Varga's music is dipped in a classic brand of folk that values emotional authenticity over populist style.

  The Jack Fords

Friday, September 12 @ 930pm
The Jack Fords

$5 Admission - In the Music Hall

Formed in 2005 at the welcoming roots rock Cleveland confines of the Town Fryer, the Jack Fords were formed when Bobby Latina and Brent Kirby met and started playing music together that seared with the influence of Gram Parsons/Flying Burrito Brothers, the Band, Bob Dylan, Faces, Rolling Stones, Black Crowes, Uncle Tupelo, Springsteen, to name a few. Rounding out the seasoned lineup is Ed 'Angel' Sotelo on bass (New Lou Reeds, Cobra Verde), and Jim Wall on drums (Kristine Jackson, Bad Boys of Blues). This solid rhythm section supplies the foundation for Brent and Bobby to present the tunes with a charismatic, confident swagger. The band's first record, 'Bent Outta Shape' was recorded live at the Town Fryer, consisting of songs written and performed in such a raw, honest fashion that you can hear the beer bottles clink and the floor creak. The ambitious recording, turned around and released within a month, quickly established the band as a solid fixture in the Cleveland music scene.

  Rob Duskey

Saturday, September 13 @ 8pm
Rob Duskey

In the Wine Bar

Getting signed as the first rock act to Boston's Slanted House dance label really took Rob Duskey, a solo-acoustic singer-songwriter by trade, by surprise. In fact, just convincing him to transpose his coffee house capabilities to the main stage took something of an intervention by family and friends. A disciple of the songs come first mantra, Rob marked this transformation with Slanted's 2009 release of his first full-length album, Cautiously Optimistic, a straightforward cross-section of Rob's introspective.
